“ Maybe I'm old-fashioned, and I like the ol' "connection with people I don't know" a little too much, or find it too important these days that nudge my 4 stars to a five if I even take the time to leave a review. I had the absolute best time I have had in over three years of New England culinary experiences here, short of Ken Oringer's restaurants in Boston. Sal's embraces the most rudimentary of guest experiences, with a big red bow on it; you feel immediately like you're having dinner at a friends place, and the family of employees there leaves you wanting for nothing and constantly refreshed with cocktails and snacks whilst you await your table. We arrived to an ambient side porch of guests, all comfortably awaiting their own tables, to a warm welcome from their team immediately inviting us for a cocktail and a check-in. We ordered a few quick cocktails from their menu, wrapped up in some blankets while we waited for our reservation announcement (we got there 20 mins early, I recommend it), and got to know some new friends (other folks waiting on their tables) for the 15-30 mins between the time we arrived and the time we were sat. The owner came out multiple times to check on everyone herself, constantly instructing the team to refresh cocktails and letting them know 'their table was getting cleared'. It was seamless; she runs an impeccable operation. We were there for the first date since my fiancé and I found out we were pregnant, so 15 weeks in, for our first date since and the first outing we had since she's alleviated the fun nuance of nausea that comes with the first trimester. We were walked to our table by the owner herself, and constantly monitored by her to assure we were having the best time (they knew why we were there). It was, again, seamless; nothing impresses me more than a full-tilt F&B operation that runs like a boat motor, and never misses a beat. The environment was ambient, warm, and familiar; we warmed right in to it. It felt like dinner at a friends place, and when we asked for suggestions from the server we simply looked around the room to see what other patrons were experiencing their own "umami" moments enough to know what we should select. We were immediately greeted by a few plates gratis from the owner, who came up and gave us the warmest of welcomes; I had a cocktail, while my fiancé had a "mocktail' compliments of the staff. We cruised through the appetizers, and immediately ordered our anxiously awaited main courses (we were starving). They were out within 10-15 mins, and there were no less than three touches from ownership/server/runner to assure our plates were perfect, we had no issues, and our meal was perfection. It was. As someone that has taken eating out on as a job, I was blown away by the consistency; this little Provincetown house had easily 80 covers going on at once, with seamless interaction and delivery for their patrons. It was immeasurably impressive. If you think that Cape Cod is lacking on fine dining, you are sadly mistaken; is alive and well with Sal's. I assure you, you will leave with new friends and a belly full of the warmest Italian food you have had in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Chefs Kiss, guys. I'll be back soon with my beautiful fiancé for our next date. ”
“ Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful location. The food is delicious and the drinks were good pairing. Reservations are hard here so make sure to go there first and grab a bite. ”
“ This place is it. The tuna preparation blew my mind. Brilliant cooking and hospitality ”
“ A Provincetown staple, Sal's continues to embed itself deeper into this ocean town community. Nestled quietly in the West End, you will not leave disappointed. With a variety of sea food based meals, they offer a selection of curated pasta dishes and main plates that will satisfy a variety of tastes. We absolutely loved the Caesar salad, crab cake and meatballs to start. Following these appetizers I had an impeccable orchiette that was large enough for two. The staff and service were great and accommodated a reservation for our large group of 11. Even with our larger group, the restaurant still felt cozy and quaint with touches of nautical decor about the space. This place is a tradition for us while on vacation, and I can't wait to come back to it next year. ”
“ Best dinner I've had in a while! Ambience and service were stars of the show. The service was amazing- George, our waiter, was so accommodating and couldn't have been more obsessed with him :)). Eclectic and nautical decor added to the hole in the wall experience. Small but thoughtful menu. We got the tiger shrimp pasta and chicken parm & both were great! Started with a martini, white wine, and complementary green bean salad and ended the night bites of the house made fudge. ”
“ The New Yorker in me wants to be abused by restaurants. Yeah daddy, force me to call you a month in advance for a reservation. Actually, that's amateur hour. Force me to call back three times and get sassed by a bored, rude maitre d' because your voicemail box is full, even though you only take reservations on the phone. Oooh, yes sir, give me a handwritten menu with four wine options. No, wait. Give me four wine options and don't even tell me what they are, beyond red, white, "maybe a rosé" and orange. I love a Billy Joel reference, and a $20 glass of wine. Thank you for throwing some chocolates on the table with my check, king! I will accept that in lieu of dessert. Yes master, I want you to bump into me six times during dinner service because you crammed a fire-code-violating number of tables into a shanty that's a short 25-minute walk from most of PTown. But oh man, what you get in return for your submissiveness, is sublime. Meatballs my mom and sister talked about for two days afterward. Salads that are perfectly dressed with subtly sour vinaigrettes. Italian comfort food like eggplant parm, done in the hi/lo style that defines luxury to me. Service that's at once confident and attentive. Only four cocktails, all batched, but all of them knockouts. And above all, an atmosphere, a confidence, a je-ne-sais-quoi that's catnip to any sophisticated gay man. A sense that you plucked a ripe fruit at the perfect moment, and everyone who didn't eat here, missed it. You want your vacation to feel special? Do whatever it takes, ignore the drawbacks, and book a dinner here. ”
“ Out of all the years I spent coming to the Cape, I had never been to Sal's. I've gotta say all those years were missed opportunities. I started by trying the Caesar salad and the grilled octopus. I then ordered the chicken parm. We had received chocolates before we left for our show. The chicken parmesan was delicious, and it's the first time I've ordered one in years. The pasta was great, and the chicken was breaded and fried to perfection. The flavor in the sauce was phenomenal. As everyone knows a chicken parm is only as good as its sauce. The food was really good. The service was also great, and our server was friendly. The portion sizes were also pretty decent. I honestly miss this restaurant, and I wonder why it took so many years for us to come and find it. I feel like I finally found one of the Cape's hidden gems. The funny thing about the restaurant though is that to get to the bathroom you have to walk through the kitchen. You can see everyone running around, and you can see how they make the food. It's pretty cool. I just hope that I wasn't in the way. It was a great experience, and I'm going to put my vote in to come back again next year. ”
